The CHIPS and Science Act directs at least $280 billion in federal spending over ten years to promote domestic semiconductor manufacturing.
But the semiconductor industry has a poor track record as a neighbor and an employer.
Without the active participation of local communities, the investments spurred by the CHIPS Act could deepen inequality, damage the environment, and leave behind the people who need it the most.

CHIPS Communities United
CHIPS Communities United is a coalition organizing for the responsible and equitable implementation of the CHIPS Act, uniting communities with new and expanding semiconductor facilities. Our alliance includes labor, environmental, social justice, civil rights, and community organizations representing millions of workers and community members nationwide.
Together we are fighting to ensure the CHIPS and Science Act benefits workers and communities.
We believe semiconductor factories subsidized by our tax dollars should be models of high-road economic development. We work with local communities to help them:
- Win well-paying union jobs for all workers in semiconductor factories receiving CHIPS funding
- Protect the local environment
- Keep workers, their families, and community members safe from toxic chemicals
